Bike/Walk to Work Challenge
May 1 - 31, 2012How it works
. Someone volunteers as a Team Captain and subsequently forms a teamfor his/her work organization (1 or more people).
. Challenge other organizations to form a team. The more teams, the better the challenge!
. Team members bike or walk to work at least 5 times during the month. That is only one day per week. Of course, the more days you commute, the more points you score for your team!
. Each team member logs his/her daily commutes to and from work .
. At the end of the month, certificates will be awarded to teams with the highest percent of trips made via walking or biking. Teams with the highest percentage of participants will be recognized.
. Just commute at least 5 days during May you will be eligible to win prizes!
Formation of teams:
. Someone from an organization registers a team from that workplace at www.bikewalkhelena.org and therefore becomes the Team Captain. Please register your team as soon as possible so team members can join your team.
. Team captain: there needs to be one per team. The team captain will be responsible for naming and registering the team and will be the main contact for the team.
What counts as a bike/walk commute?
. Biking (non-motorized) or walking both ways to work.
. Biking or walking one way to work and the other way by another mode.
. Biking or walking part way to work by pairing with transit, driving, or any other mode.

Mondays at 5:30pm, Starting in May, the first and third Monday of the month are mountain bike rides and the 2nd and 4th Mondays are road bike rides. These are casual rides, ideal for beginner to intermediate riders. Rides are May through August.// Mountain Bike rides: //
Mondays at 6:30pm, May through August
meet at the shop for a casual mountain bike ride in the South Hills trails. These are great for beginner to intermediate riders.
Wednesdays at 6:30pm, May through August
meet at the shop for a more intense mountain bike ride. These are great for intermediate to advance riders.
- FREE Clinics:
Our free clinics are a great way to learn more about your bike and how to take care of it. Topics vary from fixing a flat, trailside maintenance, bike adjustments, and more. The format is casual classroom style with hands-on demos and plenty of opportunity for the audience to ask questions. No need to sign up or bring a bike.

Other Events:
Learn To Ride in Traffic: This free class will be a casual ride to help participants become more comfortable riding in traffic on Helena streets. The ride is about 7 miles and begins at 9am at Women’s Park. We should return about 10am. Topics discussed along the way include: riding with traffic, where to ride, negotiating intersections, safety, laws for cyclists, and a variety of tips. Classes are scheduled for June 9th and July 7th.
